lovaliss's Diaryland Diary

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A poem: Stop Light

Stop Light

The red sweater lay dirty and neglected,
embarrassed gaze turns away
or gaze not turned at all.
We all sit inside our world of webs
to wait for the green light.

Lives and arguments inside the closed air

Off-key singing to some long ago memory

Slurp of soda and the crunch of candy

Children contending and mothers snapping

Smokers mist slip through the crack

Lovers lean in for an interlude kiss

and I wonder if anyone else notices.

The red sweater swelters on the intersection
whispering meekly, I can take it, I can take it
As the cars rush past at the green light go.

It ripped and flipped and fell back down,
It cried and flailed as the world spun over,
I watch in attached incredulity for a rescue,
But the world wont save what cant be saved,
Its a value issue, they say,
Just a sweater.
And I hold back my longings
and the tears.
